RELEASE DATE: JUNE 1, 2026
ESTIMATED DURATION: 75 MINUTES

Credit unions are different by design. Built on cooperation and community service, credit unions exist to empower members through ethical, accessible financial services—guided by democratic governance and a mission-centered purpose. While the industry continues to evolve, the history and philosophy behind credit unions remain essential to understanding why we exist and what makes our model distinct.

In this recorded session, participants will examine the historical roots of the credit union movement and the philosophy that continues to shape our model today. Through an educational and mission-driven lens, this session connects credit union history to today’s real-world responsibility: staying grounded in our cooperative identity while delivering meaningful impact for members and communities.

Key topics include:

  • The history and evolution of credit unions
  • Member ownership and democratic governance (“one member, one vote”)
  • The cooperative principles and “people helping people” philosophy
  • Why credit unions matter—then and now

LEARNING METHOD: This training is available as an on-demand webinar, organized into chapters. Learners can choose to watch individual chapters or complete the entire program. Unlimited testing is provided as the last chapter.
