Because they’re not-for-profit entities–not the for-profit banks most people think of when thinking of their financial institution–the credit union place in the financial services industry can be complicated. The motivation for this compendium is to clarify how credit unions are different.
The topics are organized in two ways:
Credit unions and taxes
Credit union origins
Growth and development
Retained earnings
Structure:
The Utah Credit Union Association
A great deal of credit for the compendium goes to Lynn Kuehne, a former executive of the Utah League of Credit unions, for the work he did in the late 1990s and early 2000s on many of these topics. His research and thoughts can be read in a book available print-on-demand, here.
